A building in Shoreditch named The Stage marked its partnership with the London Mural Festival with a new mural by Sophie Mess.

Located by Curtain Road and Great Eastern Street, The Stage hosts premium residences, workspaces, and leisure experiences.

Ms Mess, a London-based artist, has transformed its concrete lift shaft with her mural entitled ‘Together We Rise’ for the festival.

The mural took Ms Mess a week to paint and she said she “took inspiration from the setting for this piece.”

“At its core, my work is all about igniting and exploring our connection with nature, and how emphasising this connection in the urban environment can have such a positive impact”, she said.

“Though I always want my work to be open and interpreted by the viewer on a personal level, I took inspiration from the setting for this piece.

“The fact that the mural is on a lift shaft, I wanted to create a piece that represented working together to rise”, she added.

Ben Tooley, the Managing Director at Cain International said, “We are proud to partner with London Mural Festival for 2024 and welcome Sophie’s latest piece to its new home.

“By working with new and upcoming artists such as Sophie, we can reconnect The Stage with its historic and creative past, while further cementing its legacy a cultural destination for many years to come.”

The London Mural Festival, which was first held in 2020, celebrates street art and has featured live art creations across fifteen boroughs, featuring some from the world’s most renowned street artists.

This year’s theme is Connection with one hundred new murals to be presented throughout the festival’s duration this September.
