When you picture London’s skyline, it’s almost inevitable that Canary Wharf comes to mind. With its towering glass skyscrapers, it’s an impressive sight, and it’s not difficult to see why many consider one of London’s financial hubs as not much more than the home of banks and businesses. But Canary Wharf’s bustling streets hold much more than just high-rises- it’s home to a diverse range of restaurants, bars, and a vibrant art scene. Don’t overlook it on your next day out in the city- read on for our guide to the best that Canary Wharf has to offer, and discover its hidden gems.

Dishoom

If you haven’t been to Dishoom – you are missing out. The menu at Dishoom has fantastic choices for everyone. Whether you’re in the mood for some snacks or are after a feast – they’ve quite simply got you covered. The hot potato vada, tucked inside a soft home-made bun. Sprinkle the red spicy masala to taste is a great way to start your meal – filling, satisfying and scrumptious. The prawn koliwada is also fantastic and deserves to be tried. For mains, the spicy lamb chops that are marinated overnight in lime juice, warm dark spices, ginger and garlic are the juicy and tender. For mains, the chicken ruby is great paired with the roomali roti, an absolute favourite at the City Matters headquarters.

Despite this restaurant always being busy, the team at Dishoom are observant, perceptive, and considerate. There’s something quite special about Dishoom, not only does the food always hit the spot but the ambience in this restaurant is casual with a great vibe. The team at City Matters are huge fans of Dishoom and it’s with good reason.

Bōkan

If you’re after fine-dining then you need to visit Bōkan. Perched high in the sky on the 37th floor of Novotel London Canary Wharf, Bokan’s impressive rooftop terrace situated on the 39th floor will win you and your guest over with ease. Why not enjoy a cocktail whilst watching the sunset over the Capital’s skyline? If you aren’t in the mood for drinks then I can ensure you that, Executive Chef Robert Manea’s mind-blowing presentation of dishes will win you over. Not only is this spot perfect for a date night dinner but this is also a great place to enjoy dinner with friends. We loved the cocktail list that this bar boasts – they’re perfect for those social media shots and taste pretty good too! The service in this restaurant is superb – staff are both attentive and welcoming. One to book this month.

Pizza Pilgrims

If you’re in the mood for some seriously good pizza then it’s without a doubt that you need to check out Pizza Pilgrims. On arrival, you’ll notice how pleasant and welcoming the staff are. For drinks, the Classic Negroni is a wonderful choice but if you’re more of a Aperol enthusiast then be sure to opt for the Aperol Spritz – perfect for the summer nights. For starters, the smoked mozzarella bites, rolled in a light breadcrumb & fried to cheese-pull perfection are absolutely divine. The cacio e pepe balls are also another great addition to the table. If you’re after a slice of margherita heaven then it’s almost mandatory that you try the margherita extra-extra. However, if you like you’re pizza with a bit of a kick, then the nduja is a great option. However, the star of the show for the team at City Matters is the Ferrero Rocher Espresso Martini. This classic espresso martini with hazelnut liquor and served with a Ferrero Rocher is perfect for those social media shots but also tastes absolutely delicious. The service at this spot is also fantastic and we highly recommend adding this place to your list of joints to visit for an exceedingly good slice or two of pizza.

Electric Shuffle

There’s something very cool about this place. Whether you’re heading to Electric Shuffle for a few drinks on the terrace or looking to play a game or two – you really are in for a treat. This Canary Wharf spot is slick and the perfect joint to hang out on the weekend. The games are fantastic and will keep you entertained for the evening. We loved the cocktail list that is on offer at this spot and they also host a great food menu. Staff are great – friendly and welcoming. This is the perfect place to forget about all your worries and head down there with some friends on the weekend. Full marks from the team at City Matters.
