SOAS University of London has been listed in the top 25 in the UK in the World Reputation Rankings 2021, according to the Times Higher Education.
These rankings are based on the world’s largest invitation-only opinion survey of senior, published academics. It asks scholars to name no more than 15 universities that they believe are the best for research and teaching in their field.
SOAS Director Professor Adam Habib said: “We are very pleased to see our global reputation and excellence reflected in these rankings. Given that the rankings have been informed by experts in the field is a testament to the critical and transformational research that takes place at SOAS.

“We have an ambitious new strategic plan in place which will revitalise our research-intensity and drive our commitment to reimagining SOAS for the 21st century. As part of this, we will be appointing five new distinguished research professorships aimed at addressing the major challenges of this historical moment.”
The news of these rankings follows SOAS rising 17 places in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022 national rankings to 33rd up from 50th last year. SOAS also continues to rank in the top ten of London Universities.
The World Reputation Rankings survey, available in 14 languages, uses United Nations data as a guide to ensure that the response coverage is as representative of world scholarship as possible. It is also evenly spread across academic disciplines.
The questionnaire, which is administered on behalf of THE by Elsevier, targets only experienced, published scholars, who offer their views on excellence in research and teaching within their disciplines and at institutions with which they are familiar.
