Taking the perfect ‘fakeaway’ recipes from Gousto’s online cookbook, combined with tips from their Senior Recipe Developer Jordan Moore, it’s the perfect time to get creative in the kitchen.
Crispy Fish & Chips With Lemony Mayo
According to the National Federation of Fish Fryers, over a quarter of all fish and chips eaten in the UK is sold on Fridays, but if you’re looking for a home-cooked alternative, what about rustling up the nation’s favourite dish at home?
With our brilliant take on the classic, you’ll make your own deliciously crisp breaded fish served with homemade chips, sugar snap peas and a zingy lemony mayo.
Jordan’s Top Tip: When breading your fish fillet, keep one hand for the dry ingredients (the panko breadcrumbs) and the other for the wet ingredients (the egg), that way, the ingredients won’t mix together and form a sticky paste around your fingers.
Peri Peri Chicken, Chips & Apple Slaw
This cheeky chicken dinner is so easy to make. For the Portuguese-style dressing, you’ll use fresh lemon juice, chilli and vinegar to both marinate your chicken and spice up your mayo dip.
Jordan’s Top Tip: Use a teaspoon to scrape the seeds out of your chilli before chopping finely and to get more juice out of a lemon, simply roll it with your hand on a hard surface and cut in half.
Turkish Mixed Grill
The closest thing to a kebab, this Istanbul inspired dish boasts traditional Turkish flavours straight from the grill. You’ll make Adana lamb kebabs and harissa chicken shish, with a sweet tomato and green pepper bulgur pilaf and sharp lemon dressed salad.
Jordan’s Top Tip: Wet your hands before forming the lamb mince into rectangular patties as it stops the mince from sticking to your hands.
Sweet & Sticky Chinese Pork With Rice
Who needs a takeaway, when this easy ‘fakeaway’ dish is so quick and tasty! You’ll stir-fry fresh ginger, five-spice and pork mince with crunchy yellow pepper and mange tout in a sweet, sticky sauce. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and fresh chilli for a bit of a kick!
Jordan’s Top Tip: To easily peel ginger, just use a teaspoon to scrape the skin. It’ll come off really easily and you’ll waste less of the ginger root inside.
Pepperoni Pizza With Rocket Salad
As the most instagrammed dish, our pepperoni pizza needs no introduction.
You’ll sauce things up with a garlicky tomato base, before layering mozzarella and pepperoni on flame-baked pizza bases.
Jordan’s Top Tip: Squeeze as much water out of your mozzarella as possible, to ensure you don’t get a soggy pizza base.
Chicken Jalfrezi With Fragrant Basmati Rice
Move over chicken tikka masala, the Jalfrezi is now the nation’s favourite curry! Not convinced? Wait until you try this version, served with fragrant basmati rice.
Jalfrezi is a tomato and green pepper stir-fry based curry with a little kick to it! Our version is loaded with succulent pulled chicken, and you’ll serve it with buttery, nigella seed rice.
Jordan’s Top Tip: To make your rice really flavourful, try adding some store cupboard spices to the water. Try a cinnamon stick, a few cardamom pods and a strip of lemon zest for a hassle-free way to add extra flavour.
