The organiser and sponsors of a charity Dragon Boat Race have donated £10,000 to the Lord Mayor’s Appeal – with more to come.
Lady Lenzie believes rowers will raise an extra £2,000 by the donation cut off deadline in November.
She and three of the event’s sponsors were at Mansion House on Monday morning to hand over the sum collected so far.
The presentation was made to Lady Mayoress Samantha Bowman.
“We were delighted to be able to do a little but to assist the appeal, and anything we can continue to do to support these good causes we will do,” said Lady Lenzie.
Congratulations and a huge thank you to the Firebirds Livery Consorts for their terrific donation to the @LMAppeal from the fantastic Dragon Boat Race Day in the summer. pic.twitter.com/R5bCJw6oWf

On 29 July, teams from City Livery Companies, Square Mile corporates and charities rode the crest of a wave to Fairlop Waters, Barkingside, to take part in the appeal’s inaugural Dragon Boat Race.
Entrants competed in the hope of winning the Lord Mayor’s Cup while raising awareness of the mental health services available to residents and workers in the City.
After a late venue switch just days before the race, the Lady Mayoress hailed organisers for “snatching victory from the jaws of defeat.”
“I can’t believe it – to resurrect the event in the space of just four days was amazing.”
Plans are now being drawn up for a repeat event in September 2019.
