There are so many things happening around the City of London this month, as more and more workers return to the office.

This month in Cheapside

For something a little different this festive season, why not head to Cheapside to see the Christmas tree installed on the balcony of Mansion House?

‘An Alternative Story of a Christmas Tree’ is a piece of art by artist and researcher Áinne Burke, commissioned by the Cleansing Team at the City of London Corporation and the Cheapside Business Alliance.

The festive tree is made of waste materials, collected by the city sweepers and other waste management organisations and companies. The installation aims to remind viewers of the precious resources used in manufacturing and packaging for all the products consumers buy without perhaps considering where the materials come from, who makes them, how they are transported and where the discarded packaging and products go when we are finished with them.

The message is being sent at Christmas time when more waste than ever is created, in a bid to make people more conscious of their actions, and be more environmentally friendly where possible.

This month in… the Eastern City

If you’re looking for a festive evening in the City, look no further. The Eastern City has some of the most wonderful spots to enjoy a winter stroll or a glass of mulled wine. Head over to historic Leadenhall Market to see its giant Christmas tree, decorations and garlands, and enjoy a drink or a bite to eat at one of its restaurants, bars or pubs. Or why not view London’s Christmas lights from above at Sky Garden? Book in for a sit-down meal or drinks and dancing.
