Three City of London Corporation elected Members have been included in the New Year’s Honours.

Jeremy Simons, elected to the Court of Common Council in 2004 to represent Castle Baynard, has been awarded an OBE for services to environmental conservation in London. He also recently chaired the Port Health & Environmental Services Committee, previously chairing the Hampstead Heath Management Committee.

Mr Simons said: “I’m delighted to receive this honour. It has been a real privilege to serve London over the past two decades across its open spaces, the arts and education, and to chair London’s Port Health Authority. I would like to thank my colleagues and friends for their support and good counsels.”

Meanwhile, Doug Barrow – who represents the ward of Aldgate – has been awarded an MBE for services to the maritime sector and to the City of London.

From 2006 to 2017 he was the Chief Executive of Maritime London, promoting the UK as the world’s premier maritime business centre. Doug was also lately Chairman of the City Corporation’s Police Authority Board.

Mr Barrow said: “It has been a great privilege to promote the UK’s world leading maritime industries helping them to grow globally. The maritime sector is an important part of our economy and the City plays a key role in supporting it.

“I am deeply honoured to receive an MBE and would like to thank all those who have supported me.”

Shravan Joshi – who was elected in 2018 to represent the ward of Bishopsgate – has also been awarded an MBE for services to diversity and the British Hindu community. He serves on a wide range of City committees and has a career in the energy sector.

Mr Joshi said: “I’m very pleased to be recognised in the New Year’s Honours. The City has made good progress on issues around diversity in recent years, but there is still much to do to achieve social mobility and equality, without compromising on skills and experience. This honour is only possible thanks to the support of colleagues, friends and my family.”
