Earlier this week, The City of London Corporation’s Guildhall headquarters was illuminated purple in support of ‘Purple Tuesday.’

The ‘Purple Tuesday’ initiative calls for businesses to improve accessibility and inclusivity for disabled customers, ensuring the best experience possible. Every November, organisations get together for an annual event to showcase their support for inclusivity.

On Tuesday 12th November, City Corporation Officers partnered with the staff-led Disability, Ability and Wellbeing Network (DAWN), to deliver an inclusion seminar and panel discussion, inviting teams from the organisation to share their work on improving accessibility across the Square Mile. Following this, attendees gathered in the Guildhall courtyard to witness the illumination of the building and celebrate the event.

The City Corporation has employer status for the Disability Confident scheme, which allows it to access talent, challenge attitudes towards disability, increase understanding and remove barriers preventing people from fulfilling their potential.

Chairman of the City of London Corporation for Equity, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Andrien Meyers, said: “The City Corporation is committed to delivering excellent services and experience of the public realm for our students, staff, residents, workers and visitors. We recognise the different needs of all those who live, work, learn or visit the City and are actively working to increase accessibility and inclusivity. Illuminating Guildhall is a visible way to show we are inclusive, but we are also actively taking an increased focus on how we work across the organisation, by providing services and spaces, for a wide range of communities across the Square Mile and beyond, that produces this end result.”
