The City of London Corporation is encouraging all Londoners to act responsibly as they mark the end of 2020 and welcome in the New Year.
The calls come after a quieter Christmas for many, following the Government’s decision to place the capital under Tier 4 restrictions to manage outbreaks of Covid-19 and to suppress the virus.
London’s public New Year’s Eve fireworks display has been cancelled in a bid to stop social gatherings in the capital on December 31.
The Mayor of London has announced a special New Year’s Eve broadcast for Londoners to welcome 2021 which will be aired on BBC One.
The broadcast will reflect on defining moments of 2020 with a message of hope for the new year.

Lord Mayor of London, William Russell, said: “2020 has been a difficult year but we must resist the urge to come together for now as we look to the new year with hope.
“For the health and safety of all Londoners, we urge everyone to adhere to the restrictions and stay safe this New Year’s Eve.”
Policy Chair at the City Corporation, Catherine McGuinness, added: “This has been a year like no other but let’s resist the temptation to see it out with a party.
“We urge all Londoners and visitors to the capital to act responsibly and follow Tier 4 guidance as they welcome in 2021. By doing this, we are staying safe and saving lives.”
