Benjamin Murphy has triumphed in the battle for Bishopsgate in this week’s Common Council by-election.
The former mayor for Epping Forest fended off competition from barrister Timothy Becker and former Bishopsgate councillor Patrick Streeter to take a post recently vacated by Pooja Suri Tank.
“I am honoured to have been elected to represent the great Ward of Bishopsgate in the Guildhall,” said the newest member of the City’s Court of Common Council after his by-election victory.
“For me, it is the beating heart of our City and the centre of so much infrastructural change, which is exciting and helps to set Bishopsgate apart from other areas, as a place to live and work.
“However, there are many challenges this area faces, such as an increasing number of rough sleepers, very poor air quality and what impact Brexit will have. Each of these need creative solutions, working in partnership with multiple organisations to drawing upon the world-class resources we have here in the Square Mile and I hope to help act as a conduit for doing so.
“I will also campaign to ensure these issues are appropriately prioritised on the City of London Corporation’s agenda.”
