The India, Monument
This restaurant is a delightful gem that offers guests a taste of India in the heart of the City. We particularly liked the casual feel of this restaurant, it’s relaxed and immediately allows you to feel comfortable with ease. The staff at The India are fantastic and are always on hand to help with recommendations.
The restaurant serves traditional dishes from various parts of India. To kick off the evening, we opted for the chicken tikka, bite-sized chicken tikka pieces marinated with yoghurt, royal cumin and cardamom delicately grilled over charcoal, served with mint yoghurt sauce.
If you like your spice then you’re in for a real treat as the dansak lamb cooked with lentils is full of flavour. For vegetarians, we highly recommend trying the mixed vegetable curry, dal makhani and paneer tikka. They also host a fabulous wine list that is perfect for celebrating a special occasion. The restaurant has capacity for up to 300 guests and the venue is also perfect for private hire.
This is an amazing spot in the City for Indian food that delivers superb service, authentic Indian cuisine and a great ambience. Sounds like a winner to us.

Mint Leaf
This Fine Dining joint in the City not only oozes elegance and class but is perfect for those social media shots. To start. the succulent charcoal-grilled lamb chops infused with aromatic Indian spices are fabulous. Alongside this, the Punjabi fish fry is a great dish to try. For mains, the paneer butter masala is a creamy, tomato-based curry with tender paneer cubes and tastes absolutely delicious. However, the star of the show for the team at City Matters is the mean mango curry tangy fish curry which is infused with delicious mango flavours. A stunning gem that is perfect for celebrating a special occasion.

Gunpowder
Situated in the back streets of Spitalfields, this cosy restaurant needs to be added to your list. The starters at this restaurant are magnificent and typically two to three small plates per person are sufficient. The rasam ke bomb are the perfect way to begin your meal.
A great thing about this restaurant is the casual feel, whether you’re heading there for a team lunch or a spot of dinner – you can feel comfortable at this food joint with ease. The staff are great and always on hand to help with drinks and food recommendations. Gunpowder delivers on delicious flavours that many food spots in the City fall short on.

Brigadiers
If you work in the City, then it’s highly unlikely that you haven’t heard the hype around Brigadiers. This Indian restaurant opened its doors in May 2018. Inspired by the army mess bars of India, where military regiments go to eat, drink and socialise.
The menu is split into six sections, starting with moreish beer snacks and working through chhota chatpata, rolls and buns, sizzlers and kebabs, steaks and chops and, finally, the rotisserie and wood oven. Brigadiers is exceptionally good – if you’re in the mood for an Indian feast then this needs to be added to your list.

Dishoom
You simply can’t go wrong with dinner or lunch at Dishoom. Whether you’re in the mood for some snacks or are after an Indian feast – they’ve got you covered. To start, we highly recommend trying the hot potato vada, crunchy titbits and chutneys, tucked inside a soft home-made bun.
For mains, the spicy lamb chops that are marinated overnight in lime juice with warm dark spices, ginger and garlic are juicy and tender. For mains, the chicken ruby is great paired with the roomali roti, an absolute favourite at the City Matters headquarters.
Despite this restaurant always being busy, the team at Dishoom are observant, friendly and attentive. There’s something quite special about Dishoom, not only does the food always hit the spot but the ambience at this restaurant is casual with a great vibe. It’s a thumbs up from us.

Colonel Saab
When it comes to impressing diners with decor, interiors and artefacts, Colonel Saab gets full points from the team at City Matters. As soon as you walk into this restaurant you can’t help but feel curious about all the artefacts that are dotted around this food joint that have been collected by Roop Partap Choudhary’s family during their travels.
Whether you’re heading to this restaurant for a special occasion or dinner with friends, prepare to be dazzled. Each dish is presented beautifully, with a great level of attention having gone into each dish. The service from staff is outstanding – and most certainly leaving you feeling very comfortable.
If you’re looking for a classy restaurant in the City that delivers on great food, excellent service and beautiful interiors then this most certainly is a magnificent choice.

OUT OF THE CITY
Kricket
Situated in Canary Wharf, this is a wonderful spot for casual dining. We decided to kick things off with a bit of spice with the tomato rasam pani puri. The bhel puri is another great addition to the starters, comprised off raw mango, coriander chutney and yoghurt. We particularly enjoyed the Keralan fried chicken pickled mooli which is accompanied by a curry leaf mayo.
For larger plates, we’d highly recommend trying the mushroom keema pao. Now the real star of the show for the team at City Matters is the exceptional breads that are on offer. The freshly baked breads are a great addition to almost any dish on Kricket’s menu. The masala kulcha and date & pistachio kulcha are exceptional.
The cocktails at Kricket are delightful – whether you’re opting for the non-alcoholic cocktails or fancy something with a little bit of a kick you’re in for a treat. A great spot to check out this month.

Farzi London
There’s something quite special about Farzi London. As soon as you step into this modern Indian restaurant, you’ll be impressed by the slick and sophisticated interiors. Located in Haymarket, The Taste Of Farzi menu, priced at £42 is a real steal for diners. To begin, you’ll be presented with fryums & papaddums, a lovely way to kick off the meal. For starters, we opted for the spinach & kale chaat, a generous portion – we loved the combination of saffron yoghurt and tamarind. This set menu is great value for money, when choosing mains, you’ll have a great selection to choose from and all mains come accompanied with dal makhni, butter naan, pulao rice and raita. This is a wonderful Indian restaurant to visit when you’re in and around the City.
